About HotMakes

HotMakes is a weekly live show that highlights the best of the maker community with curated content comprised of submissions from fans using #HotMakes on Twitter and Instagram. HotMakes has a “morning radio show” vibe, with witty banter and fun, lighthearted showcases of fan submissions. The show was originally co-hosted by Jim Edgeworth (The Edge of Tech), and Alan Puccinelli (Repkord), and now has various guest hosts, sponsors, and a dedicated Producer working in the background.

HotMakes currently has over 100 episodes released and a dedicated and engaged community of regular viewers.

What I Provide

As Producer for HotMakes, I pull levers and push buttons in the background. During the live show on Monday nights, I run sound effects, graphics, intros, outros, and segment bumpers (that I’ve created myself), banners, capture giveaway winner names, show comment highlights, and do behind the scenes research. Outside of the live broadcast, I edit, write, schedule, interact, and maintain posts on the official HotMakes social media channels (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook). As a natural element of this role and my overall interests, the brand identity is continuously being developed to be consistent and captivating.

In addition to my Producer role, I also take on and maintain a “character” for the show as HotMakes own Artificial Intelligence counterpart, Geari. With a name comprised of equal parts Google, Siri, and the mainstream icon of the maker community (a gear), Geari has a jaded, yet helpful personality that combines sarcasm and robot-themed humor to bring additional “spark” to every episode. That was all just a fun exercise in character development, though. Practically, Geari’s purpose is to allow me to step in and interact with the hosts to provide support for the show’s content, while also remaining “faceless” behind the scenes.
